The soccer world is buzzing right now.
Canada makes a start to the next round of qualifying for Brazil 2014 by traveling to Cuba to play in the stifling afternoon heat of Havana Friday on a pitch that will undoubtedly be terrible.
I’m heavily backing a good win despite the problems. This is as good a side as we have ever had in this country. Cuba should not be bothersome. Then it will be back to Toronto to take on Honduras, a much more difficult prospect but also possible.
Toronto FC has finally put an end to Aron Winter’s misery by firing him. Nine MLS defeats in a row was obviously too much even for TFC. Now Paul Mariner is stepping forward to take on the job.
This is a true soccer man with a great deal of playing and coaching experience behind him. Everyone, myself included, will be keeping fingers crossed he can make a difference.
And Euro 2012 opens friday in Poland and Ukraine. Stand by for exciting stuff for three weeks.
